Efficient Nutrition

Abbie Hurst

My name is Abbie Hurst and I have a small team of coloured show ponies alongside my soon to be Mother-in-Law, Helen Pickles. We are a completely home produced show team and our yard is based at home between Harrogate and York.

Currently we have three ponies to show: Rosie XXVI, who is the most established of the three competes in CHAPS classes and HOYS qualifiers. Last season, supported by Balanced, we had our most successful season yet and won classes and championships all over, including three CHAPS regional shows, North of England show, Huby & Sutton, Borrowby, CHAPS Championship show and Countryside Live at the Great Yorkshire Showground, as well as getting some good placings in HOYS qualifiers.

Phoenix VII: Phoenix is five years old and was backed last year. She will be contesting Novice classes in 2017. She was a winner at the Great Yorkshire Show as a three year old and is showing promise under saddle, winning her first two outings and qualifying for the restricted finals at the BSPS Winter championships.

Driving Miss Daisy (Daisy) is our newest addition to the team and will be contesting CHAPS youngstock classes this year. She was lightly shown last year as she needed a little bit of TLC when she came to us. However in the three shows that she has done she won her classes and was Champion or Reserve Champion each time out.

“I feed Balanced ‘Happy Feet’ which I like because it keeps them in good condition without the danger of them becoming too fat, especially in Spring and Summer time, but still provides all of the nutrition they need to look healthy and shiny. The absence of any molasses means they are happy and sensible to ride and handle in the ring and at home.”
